Virgin Atlantic to make South American debut
Virgin Atlantic is making its beginning into South America with nonstop flights between London Heathrow and São Paulo in Brazil set to launch in Q1 2020.
The 11-hour 55-minute flight will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft configured with 31 upper class, 35 premium and 192 economy seats.
The only flights between the UK and Brazil are currently operated by oneworld alliance partners British Airways and LATAM Airlines Group. The two airlines signed a codeshare deal in September 2015 and entered into a joint business agreement in January the following year.
However, from 31 March 2019, Norwegian will begin a new service to Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport from London Gatwick Airport. Four weekly flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
